Robert Salwen is an executive compensation attorney and consultant with 30 years of experience advising companies and executives on executive compensation matters.   He is based in the New York City metropolitan area.  Bob serves a diversified corporate clientele in a variety of industries, including financial services and manufacturing. 


Bob founded consultants Executive Compensation Corporation in 1995.  For ten years before that, he was a principal of the world’s largest human resources consulting firm, William M. Mercer, Incorporated, specializing in executive compensation in Mercer’s New York City offices.  For eight years prior to joining Mercer, he practiced executive compensation law in New York City with the firm of Barrett Smith Schapiro Simon & Armstrong and a predecessor firm, Rothschild & Salwen.


Bob has lectured on executive compensation before numerous business, professional and trade organizations, including the American Compensation Association and The Conference Board, and he is often quoted in the national business press, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Fortune and Business Week.  He is co-author of the Guide to Executive Employment Contracts (now in its third edition, published by Harcourt), and was an editor of and contributor to a standard reference text in the field, Executive Compensation: A 1987 Road Map for the Corporate Advisor.  Bob is also the author of  “Hiring the CEO: An Analytical Framework,” published by the American Compensation Association in 1997,  “Paying in Stock: The Rank-and-File,” published in the March/April 1996 issue of The Corporate Board,  “Employment Contracts, Golden Parachutes, and Other Executive Agreements in Perspective,” published in the Winter 1995/96 issue of the Benefits Law Journal, and “Stock Ownership Guidelines for Corporate Executives", published in the September-October 1994 issue of The Corporate Governance Advisor.  Bob has also appeared as a guest commentator on PBS’ Nightly Business Report, CNBC’s Today’s Business and the Cavuto Business Report on the Fox News Channel.


Bob is a member of the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He is also a member of WorldAtWork (formerly the American Compensation Association) and the National Association of Stock Plan Professionals.  From 1995 to 2001 he served as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Executive Compensation of the Committee on Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association.  Bob is a graduate of Princeton University (A.B. 1975) and New York University (J.D. 1978).
